If you have perused our site at all, you will have noticed numerous references to Paleo and healthy living. Clearly these topics are important to us, but why? I want to shed some light on the subject, and explain how I decided this was the best fit for me. Let me take you on my healthy lifestyle journey.

MY HEALTHY LIFESTYLE JOURNEY

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

I have been interested in health for decades, and always assumed I was being healthy by making the “right” choices. I followed what we all learned growing up, and read about in mainstream media – eat according to the Food Pyramid, sugar isn’t that bad but fat is our enemy, workout long and hard, and ultimately push yourself to the limits. What I didn’t realize at the time, is that all my assumptions about healthy living were not making me healthy.

MY HISTORY

As I outlined in previous posts, I faced numerous health issues over the last several years. Without going into the gory details, I was experiencing things like digestive distress, skin rashes, sleep disturbances, fatigue, hormonal imbalance, and the list goes on. It became bad enough that I knew something significant had to change. I couldn’t ignore the warning sings any longer, I needed to help my body function the way it’s supposed to.

Autoimmune diseases are common in my family, actually they are common in general these days. As my interest and involvement in natural health and wellness grew, I continued to come across Paleo. I encountered numerous success stories of people overcoming these conditions by adopting a Paleo lifestyle. I kept digging, searching for options that didn’t require I give up my beloved comfort foods. Yet everything kept pointing back to the same thing. I was disturbing my system with the same foods I held so dear.

THE CONCLUSION

It took me time, and loads of research, to come to this understanding. I didn’t want to give in, I enjoyed the simplicity of breakfast cereals, the joy of creamy sweet ice cream, the ease of ordering a pizza for dinner. And yet, when I consumed these items, I felt terrible. It was only when I started looking inward, that I realized it was these specific triggers that were causing issues.

I reached my breaking point, during one of our many foodie adventure vacations, when I was nearly incapacitated. I tried ignoring it, and stuffing down my symptoms with medicines. When we returned home, I had complete clarity. I could not longer ignore what my body was telling me, it was time for a major change.

So I dug in, scoured the Internet, borrowed every book on holistic health and Paleo living from the library, and learned all I could about this lifestyle. The process was eye-opening. I discovered what I already suspected, that I could help my body heal itself with food and healthy lifestyle choices.

MOVING FORWARD

I continue to learn and educate, and am constantly absorbing new information. I am excited about the positive changes I have seen in myself since the conversion, and excited about what it can do for others. As such, I want to share this knowledge with others. It is a difficult undertaking, but worth its weight in gold. I am confident that you will, just as I did, come out a better person on the other side.
